More winter pictures from Veshtica

I told you about the winter situation in Belogradchik and now I will share some pictures from Veshtica. I really hope that this will be the last snow for the winter. The forecast for the next 10 days is for a stable and rainy weather,so those were probably the last cold days for this winter.

The pictures once again were made by my brother Aleksander.

  2. Hi

I've started a blog on Bulgaria and would like to exchange posts with you:

With this blog i want to develop a patchwork of impressions about Bulgaria to give it a realistic face worts-and-all. That's why i would be glad to receive and post a contribution from your blog. It can be a post you have already published or a new one. It can be on any subject you would like to talk about in relation to Bulgaria including yourself and personal impressions and expeience.

At the end of the post please include a description of yourself and your blog with a link to it.

There are many reasons why i am doing it:
    1. Contributing to creating a different image of Bulgaria from the one peddled in the foreign press.
    2. Getting more awareness for Bulgaria as a travel destination for what I like to call intelligent tourism: health, culture, nature. The reality which is different from the cheap booze holidays it is internationally reknown for...
    3. Telling the many people I know abroad about what life is really like here. Good, bad, ugly and beautiful by creating a pathwork of impressions of Bulgaria.

I believe that creating a human face for Bulgaria worts-and-all is one way to change its internationally image.

Let's try and create a rich tapestry with lots of small dots. It will always be more beautiful than the large brush strokes with which the foreign media love to paint Bulgaria and Romania as if they were naturally bounded together.

To date I've written and reblogged on several subjects:
    Bulgarian society
    The Thracians

    Write about what inspires you!

    All the best

Interesting birds in Bulgaria-Black Stork (Ciconia nigra)

The first post will be about the Black Stork  (Ciconia nigra). This bird is very, very rare in Bulgaria ,but near Belogradchik there are several lakes where you can see Black Storks. The nearest of them is the Dubrava lake which is 5 kilometers from Belogradchik.

Slightly smaller than the White Stork, the Black Stork is a large bird, 95 to 100 cm (37–39 in) in length with a 145–155 cm (5 ft) wingspan, and weighing around 3 kilograms (6.6 lb). They can stand as tall as 102 cm (40 in). Like all storks, it has long legs, a long neck, and a long, straight, pointed beak. The plumage is all black with a purplish green sheen, except for the white lower breast, belly, axillaries and undertail coverts. The breast feathers are long and shaggy forming a ruff which is used in some courtship displays. The bare skin around its eyes is red, as are its re…
